PAST EVENTS

Following are the events that have happened in the past and have become our annual events now

INDEPENDENCE DAY

It was on this day in 1947 that India became independent. We won freedom after a hard struggle. On this day our first Prime Minister Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru unfurled The National Flag at The Red Fort for the first time. In Delhi, the capital of India, this day is celebrated with great pomp and show. People gather in large numbers into the parade ground in front the red fort. The foreign ambassadors and dignitaries also partipcate in the celebrations. The prime minster unfurls the national flag. A guard of honor is given by the local police and armed forces personnel. A salute of 21 guns is fired. The military band plays the national anthem.

REPUBLIC DAY

Republic Day is the celebration of when the constitution of India came into force. This was the day when the rights and duties of Indians were brought into concrete form. In India, a grand parade is held in the capital followed by moving exhibits from different states of India. ISA celebrates this historic day by getting together for a flag hoisting which is followed by fun indoor games like annual table tennis, carrom and chess competition. Other activities also include antakshari, fun trivia, fancy dress competion for the small kids of families residing around the University.

BOLLYWOOD NIGHT

It is the time to be goofy, to smile, to sing and dance all night long! There is food,DJ, music and dancing. People from different nationalities come and show their dance moves of Indian songs

DIWALI

Diwali is a very important festival for Indians and certainly its the biggest event of ISA too. The preparations for Diwali begin 2-3 months in advance, including ticket sale. The festival is celebrated in collaboration with ICAEA (Indian Cultural Association of East Alabama). People are dressed in the most colorful dresses. Students start preparing for performances for this day and only 2-3 best performances are selected for the final day show. Indian music performance is also a part of this event along with Indian dance. The Rangoli on the entrance and the decorations of the hall mesmerizes everyone. The food is served at the end of the ceremony and people enjoy it a lot.

HOLI

As the winter recedes gradually and makes way for warmer days, we are gearing up to have a blast yet again! Just when you thought that the fun had stopped, we’re here with yet another event filled with fun and extravaganza! Holi is here and the Indian Students Association welcomes all of you to be a part this unique festival of colors.

NAVRATRI

This time of the year is full of celebrations and Navratri is the perfect reason why. Let Auburn be tucked away far from the popular Gujju centrals of US, the dire need to play dandia and do ras garba gets the Indian families residing around Auburn to become perfect hosts for 3 to 4 evenings full of food, fun dandiya and garba. Do Look forward to the live band, yes, we celebrate Navratri, the very same way we use to do it in India.

BIG EVENT

It is important to help others when they are in need. So, ISA helps people of Auburn by participating in the Big Event. The Big Event gathers volunteers to continuously make Auburn a better place to live in.It is time to give it back to the People living around us.
